Summer is upon us, and we’re really feeling the heat here in Tucson. Our city can reach over 100 degrees for more than 50 days out of the year. What better way to stay cool than with a smoothie or some refreshing sorbet approved by the American Association of Orthodontists and Dr. Bedoya!

Watermelon Sorbet

Ingredients
•    ¾ cup water
•    ¼ cup sugar
•    1 tsp lime juice
•    2-3 cups diced watermelon (no seeds or rind)

Instructions
1.    Heat the water, sugar, and lime juice on medium high for 1-2 minutes
2.    Stir until the sugar has dissolved
3.    Chill the “syrup” for 20 minutes
4.    Blend watermelon chunks during this time
5.    Add the chilled syrup and blend
6.    Freeze in an ice cream maker
7.    Serve

Blueberry & Pineapple Smoothie (Serves 2-3)

Instructions:

1.    Place all ingredients in a food processor or blender
2.    Mix on medium speed until smooth
